Julie Montgomery is the owner of Kindred Fair Trade in downtown Santa Rosa, a gift shop that offers unique international treasures handmade by artisans in developing countries. Julie grew up in Sonoma County and her early interest in international development led her to earn a degree in International Peace & Conflict Studies from UC Berkeley.
She achieved her long-time dream of becoming a Peace Corps volunteer from 2007-2008, serving in the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu as a Small Business Advisor. Her role was to help the islanders start small income-generating projects. She also tutored students, worked on water projects, and successfully received grant money to fund the building of a small bridge.
Julie is a graduate of the Santa Rosa Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Santa Rosa program (Class XXVI), as well as a Fellow of the Leadership Institute of Ecology & Economy (2013).
Julie’s passion for international development continues through her Rotary Club, the Santa Rosa East Rotary Club. One of her projects was traveling to Uganda to help install seven large solar cookers in a vocational college. She is now a Board Member for her club and a future President.
When not working or volunteering in the community, she enjoys running, biking, and wine tasting in the beautiful wine country. She loves living in Santa Rosa with her sweetheart, Todd, and traveling the world whenever she can.
