We’re wired for balance and in practice that looks like the integration of personal and professional goals and demands. How do we do that? We stop misleading ourselves and start self leading. Through a focus on self-leadership, we create an optimum condition to experience integration across all areas of our life.
When you are engaged in self-leadership, you are fueled by a core relationship of trust within yourself. It’s more than just confidence; it’s the intersection of knowing who you are and why you do the things you do. It’s about being so aligned within yourself that you can influence your thinking, feeling, and action towards an objective.
Practically, this looks like being better versions for ourselves in our life and in our work. Being better is not a call to competing against others. It’s really about self evaluating and self leading to the point where you stand at the center of your life, empowered, educated & equipped to make your next good decision.
Think of this as a practice in personal mastery. This is where you take all the tools that you have worked on (your value proposition, your definition of success, your purpose statement, your mission statement, etc) and create action through connection.
Personal Mastery/Self Leadership is how you build the most essential quality in business, discipline. You’re generating energy that will motivate you to achieve your daily, weekly, or lifelong objectives. I think Derek Lauber put it best, “Self-leadership is your ability to masterfully lead yourself so you can create the success you want for yourself, your family, your business, and your life.”
As you sit with this idea of self-leadership, I want you to consider looking more deeply at the importance of EQ (emotional intelligence) and accountability.
A foundational truth I want you to ponder is this…
Your success starts and ends with you.
